More than just a game

one of the most anticipated events in school? Intramurals are more than just games; they are a celebration of teamwork, talent, and school spirit. During this event, students from different grade levels compete in various sports and activities that bring excitement and unity to the campus. It is not only a time for fun and competition but also an opportunity to learn discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie that extend beyond the classroom.

Last school year, I had the chance to join the lawn tennis team, and it was both exciting and challenging. At first, I felt nervous because it was my first time playing this sport. However, as the games went on, I gained confidence. My goal was not just to win, but to enjoy the experience and learn something new. To my surprise, I ended up winning my match, which made me even happier.

This year, I couldn't join the team because I fear that it might  affect my studies. However, I am part of the Red Cross Youth Council, which means we are responsible for facilitating and serving as medics for all the sports during the Intramurals. Initially, I was excited because I thought lawn tennis would be included among the events we would assist with, but unfortunately, it wasn’t. Instead, I was assigned to facilitate the basketball team.

It was a rollercoaster experience. Every game, at least one or two players would get injuries to their feet, and it was incredibly stressful when two players were injured simultaneously because we didn't have enough supplies to manage the situation. Despite these challenges, I was grateful for the experience, as it taught me what to do in future emergencies. Not only did I help the players, but I also made new friends, connected with my fellow council members along the way.

In the end, my intramural experiences, both as a player and as a member of the Red Cross Youth Council showed me that this event is not just about sports or competition. It is about growth, friendship, and service. Whether I was on the court playing lawn tennis or on the sidelines helping injured players, I realized that intramurals teach valuable lessons that go beyond the games themselves. They remind us that winning is important, but the true victory lies in the teamwork, responsibility, and connections we build with others.
